IIM-RANCHI CHAPTER

Ranchi Chapter of the Indian Institute of Metals is one of the leading and active chapters having membership strength of over 300. The chapter was established on 12th December 1973  through the efforts of a group of dedicated metallurgists working in SAIL, MECON, NIFFT and HEC at Ranchi. Ranchi – the erstwhile ‘Summer Capital’ of Bihar - has undergone sea change since then to become the capital city of the state of Jharkhand and hub of industrial activities especially for Iron & Steel. Ranchi Chapter today continues to flourish through the support and patronage of various industries and organizations in and around Ranchi viz. SAIL/CET, SAIL/RDCIS, MECON, HEC Ltd, NIFFT etc.

The activities of the chapter include Organizing Technical talks by invited Speakers, organizing National/International Seminars/Conferences, giving Awards of Excellence to young working Scientists/Engineers, felicitating senior Metallurgists/Engineers for their outstanding contributions to the cause of the Chapter, organizing visits for the members to neighboring industries and organizing Ranchi level Inter-School Metals & Materials Quiz for selecting the team for sponsoring to “Prof Brahm Prakash Memorial Metals & Materials Quiz” hosted by IIM Kalpakkam Chapter.

Ranchi Chapter hosted the 29th NMD and 45th ATM at Ranchi during November 14-17, 1991 and co-hosted the 41st NMD and 57th ATM at Kolkata during November 14-16, 2003 along with Kolkata, Durgapur and BE College Chapters. In addition, from time to time, members of the Chapter have creditably shouldered various responsibilities entrusted to them during NMD's/ATM's at other chapter locations in India.

Since inception of the Chapter, a good number of members have been honored with NMD Awards for their outstanding contributions in various fields.

The Chapter has a large number of student members. For the benefit of these budding metallurgists, coaching classes and technical lectures are organized from time to time to help in their preparations for the AMIIM Examination conducted by IIM Head Office.
